Mandarina created the concept for The Creativity Project, which lead to a series of 3 events exploring the interface between scientific and artistic creativity for the Dana Centre (Science Museum) and Tate Modern, London. The events were presented to a large, enthusiastic and engaged audience in March and April 2009. They involved artists and scientists in dialogue and debate about the boundaries of scientific and artistic insights into creativity. They disturbed and challenged received ideas and assumptions about the nature and purpose of creativity. The events were Sleep and Creativity; the Brain and Creativity and Communities – a workshop which encouraged audience participation in a range of creative activities.
This series was developed in partnership with the European Dana Alliance for the Brain, Tate Modern and Mandarina – and supported by the Wellcome Trust.

Mandarina was commissioned to carry out a strategic review of the residency programme of the Delfina Foundation and to propose a model for developing future partnerships in the UK and in the Middle East. The Foundation’s aim is to support cross-cultural exchange between artists living in the West and the East, with the Middle East as its initial focus.
Their principal activity is a programme of residencies for artists to enable them to explore the links between the arts and civic society from architecture to human rights.
This work is ongoing.

Mandarina’s association with the ICP Infinity Award 2009 winner Dutch photographer Geert van Kesteren continues with a project to develop an exhibition and a public programme about cultural issues raised within the context of the conflict in Gaza. After his internationally acclaimed books and exhibitions Why Mister, Why? and Baghdad Calling, the Dutch photojournalist Geert van Kesteren has begun a new project: After the Ceasefires, where he searches for the human perspective within the seemingly endless conflict between Israel and Palestine.
Mandarina is actively seeking to promote debate and encourage dialogue on cultural questions raised by the conflict in Gaza involving architects, writers, thinkers, artists... If you are interested in participating in this project please email info@mandarinaprojects.info with your ideas. |
At the crossroad of industrial, orchestral and electroacoustic music, the composer Olivier Florio was looking for an unusual place in order to perform his new project and to spread his music in its full resonance. He found it by selecting underground car parks. Florio has a fascination for modern architecture and “intermediate spaces“.
The career of Olivier Florio has followed many different paths in both classical and electronic music covering projects in the world of cinema, contemporary music and industrial/rock concerts. This project is being developed for festivals in France including the Ville de Paris, as part of Les Nuits Blanches.
