A feasibility study
June 2005

Rachmaninoff Remembered
Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo

Synopsis

The Rachmaninoff Foundation engaged me to realise a feasibility study for a promotion of Serge Rachmaninoff in Scandinavia. My approach consisted of building a collaborative Festival to celebrate the complete works of the composer in 3 neighbouring countries: Finland, Sweden and Norway. My proposal was for a partnership between three major Scandinavian Orchestras, two opera companies, two radio orchestras, a recording company and two Festivals around a single composer in one unique season. These organisations had never worked collaboratively in the past, but were enthusiastic and actively explored the advantages of this collaboration, not least because a promotion of this kind had never been done before for one composer. The benefit of this collaborative approach was that – for a relatively low investment – the work of the composer was fully promoted throughout Scandinavia, in a focussed period of time, securing thereby a high level of media awareness and commercial promotion. The project was labelled, branded and operated purely as a marketing tool.
